2013 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 680 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 11 trips to carry that many people.

Four years ago

Sunday, 21 February 2010

February is a special month. First of all, it has only 28 days (sometimes 29) and this year these 28 days are perfectly distributed in 4 complete weeks. I like it. However, that is not reason why it’s so special. One of my nieces, Esperança, turned 7 years old on 6 February. That was quite special, but it’s not why I’m writing this post. Come on, you know why. I’ve been living in the Netherlands for 4 years!

February 2006 was a month full of events. Farewell from SRII. Arrival to Delft. New friends. First Erasmus parties. Everything was new and amazing. I can hardly remember those times. It feels so distant to me now. When I read all those old posts, I can’t believe I have done all that.

Then I started to go to some Jazz sessions, watch movies at the Filmhuis, visit museums, borrow books from the library. Improving my cultural life. I was also moving around, in “discover” mode. Paris, Köln, Brussels, Torino, Praha & Budapest (post is still in draft), Scandinavia

When I finished my thesis, and started looking for a job, my “Erasmus life” was about to end. I was entering the “next level”, starting my integration process in the Dutch society. I continued for a while hanging around with the same people, but spending more and more time with “natives”.

Today, after several years working and living with Dutch people, I feel like one of them. I guess I’m in the third level. My life is now “stable”. I have a full-time job, a home, friends, regular activities. If I do “nothing”, I could really stay “forever” in Delft. There is no more “uncertainty”. But I miss the excitement of discovering new things everyday. That is why I started with my Japanese lessons. I need something “new” every once in a while, and to return to my bohemian life.

I’ve recently found a “privacy” (*) breach (my CV was too accessible), so this weekend I’ve been updating my websites. Only today I’ve spent more than 4 hours looking at previous posts. It seems that every year I feel the same, and I write an “anniversary post”. Things haven’t changed much since last year or even the end of 2008!

Like I said, I feel too attached to my routines, and I’m hardly going out to visit new cities, or going to museums. or traveling. I don’t remember when was the last time I attended a “wild” party. I guess our life priorities change… Now I prefer to have a quiet and simple life, but, at the same time, I feel I need a change soon.

That is why this lent period I wanna write a “plan of evasion”. When will be my “liberation” day? We’ll see what I decide at the end, on Easter (4 April 2010).

Enjoy the last week of the month! 😉

Ubuntu al meu AA1

Saturday, 18 July 2009

Bon dia!

Cercant mines

I avui dematí he descobert que puc enxufar el meu reproductor Samsung YP-U3 i me’l reconeix.

Ara sí! Estic llest i tenc fam!

What a fucking joke! (*)

I avui?

Avui aniré a dormir ben satisfet.

Oh, perhaps I should switch to English. I pass so much time with Dutch people, that afterwards I continue thinking In Dutch. Time to switch. Today, I had a First Aid course together with some TIS colleagues. It was fun. I’ve always wanted to learn how to help in case of an accident, and now I had the opportunity. The course is taught in that “strange” language, so I’ve also learned new words. We still have a other 8 hours session in two weeks, mostly to practice, and then an exam. In addition to my Japanese course, I’ve have some material to study, during the week. However, the books are clearly written, with many pictures, so it should not be too difficult to understand. But I’m going away from my subject…

I want to talk about what happened afterwards. It was quite early, 16:30, and I didn’t want to go home yet. I said to myself: “Why not to take a look at the TU?” They are still busy with the park in middle of the campus, but it’s advancing. I went around with the bike, until I reached the Sport centrum. Then I came back, and turned right when I arrived at Aula. I saw the library, and some people outside. I’ve had a sudden desire to go inside and read a book.

I’ve taken 2 books from the shelves. One English grammar book, where I’ve read about phrasal verbs, and then “Security and Cooperation in Wireless Networks”, by Buttyán and Hubaux. While I was reading, I had some projects in mind, and I’ve taken some notes, like a student. The chapter about RFID and the problems with privacy was very interesting. It was nice to be like a student again. Everybody around was busy studying, or chatting outside. Perhaps I should go more often, and pick up a random technical book. When I was a student, I enjoyed doing that. Instead of studying, I’d take a book, and skim on it until I find some interesting subject. Reading for pleasure, without pressure.
I’ve been there until 20:00. It has been a relaxing Saturday afternoon.

Now, is time to go to bed. I hope I’ll remember to update my clock tomorrow. 😉

Silence

Sunday, 22 February 2009

Silence can be an enjoying experience, especially on Sunday morning. I usually put some music, like Morcheeba, to relax. Or I turn on the radio to hear some Dutch news and listen to Jazz music. However, today I decided, perhaps by laziness, to just enjoy silence. I haven’t heard any music or human sound yet. Only some cracks from the gas heating, the tram, some cars, and, right now, the slight spinning from my netbook’s fan. Well, eventually I can hear some doors opening.

I’ve waken up slowly, in several steps. Wake up, drink some water, back to bed, sleep a bit, and wake up again. At 13h I was more or less recovered. I’ve eaten some grapes and then I’ve done some exercises my physiotherapist has recommended me to do. I have some lumbago problems I want to solve.

Then, I’ve started to write on my personal diary (a real one, with paper and pencil), about yesterday, staring at the window. The sky is gray, but I don’t care. I just want to be home, enjoying silence. I like to lose track of time. One minute can be eternal, or one hour a flash. It only depends on you.

Do nothing, just relax, and listen.

Tornada accidentada

Tuesday, 13 January 2009

A Mallorca m’ho he passat molt bé.

A dins l’avió, tot bé.

Només me quedava caminar 20 minutets fins a casa.

Au idò, un any més tots sols. Crec que jo també emigraré aviat… 😦

Au!

PS: ja falta poc pels 200. 🙂
